Mikhail is a great engineer, who can translate complex business needs into working code on short notice, and think through the various challenges and pitfalls of one approach versus another. He also has a flexible mind and can-do attitude, not afraid to pick up new skills if the business requires them. As one example, he single-handledly converted part of our backend from a SQL database cluster to a newly designed (by him), much more scalable distributed datastore, and I don't think he had experience with the latter. That solution, which manages millions of new records each day, is still in effect without issues. Aside from being a great engineer and architect, he's also a great example for fellow engineers and fun to have around.
